What's a Bra to you?

To a normal human being:

To physicists*:

How can anyone let such a boring notation share the name of something so sexy?

*its a notation in quantum mechanics
P.S. took me quite a while to find a picture of a bra which will not cause my blog to look like some p o r n site.

First Experiment in 2007

Lab just cannot get more boring than this.
Last week, i spent 3 hours to learn that the Geiger-Muller tube is problematic.
The operating voltage is higher than the voltage we are permitted to used according to the protocol.

A typical lab table*

There this is a damn retro machine used to record the number of counts.

Picture of the label on the box containing the radioactive source.

Experiments this year requires a lot of patience. And last week Shawn and I were jus MSN-ing away. Hiryu (a friend from physics) told me tt i should probably write tt in the lab report as one of the Precautions.

So my lab report will probably look like tt:

Precautions:
1) Point the radioactive source away from another person.
2) Ensure that lab partner is not signed in to MSN.
3) ... (yet to think of more)

Conclusion
If lab partner refuses to sign out of MSN, threaten him/her with the radioactive source.

MSN is like friction - its gd to have a little, but too much of it reduces work efficiency.

* of cos not so neat and tidy, Shawn and I made an attempt to wayang.

Meal at Waruku

Oh to add on to the previous post,

Dickson ordered a Mini Curry Katsu-Don ($9.80) in Waraku,

And Eddy ordered of a Regular Curry Katsu-Don ($11.80).

As you can see the Regular is approx. twice that of the Mini.

From what i still remember in Economics, there is this formula:

( marginal increase in output ) /( marginal increase in input),

Paying $2 ( input) more gives a 100% increase in the quantity of food (output)...
Hmm...that works out to be 50% for every dollar paid after $9.80.

* not sure if i got the price right...but i am quite sure those reading my blog will get my point.
** in short, don't get the mini, its for kids; and u will probably get laughed at for saving tt $2 - i cant help it, in such cases i rather waste food.

Meeting up with my army colleagues

From left to right,

Eddy - my fellow crabbing buddy in Tekong. Taught me everything thing i need to know abt catching crabs.

Ji Wei - Logistics Specialist (sounds way too cool, it just means quartermaster/storeman)

Michael - A*Star scholar in Carnegie Mellon University, WITS leader of SYNERGY....haha

Shawn - aka Kwek Liang Wei; Docu Spec; slave of the Chief Clerk; fellow buddy in NUS physics.

Chih Peng - My officer who went through shit with me; always use jockey cap to hit my head until the cap came apart; damn pro in Halo 2; taught me damn a lot of stuff...but i only remember the part abt fishing =)

Jia Yong - 2nd officer who does work beyond his pay-grade. During tough times we worked through the night to get some stuff done. btw, we dun get paid for OT in the army.

Yong Zhi - i was the one to rope him into HQ, knew him since JC. Always have big dreams but no practical way to achieve them. (i bet he hasnt been updating his blog too...)

Dickson - the one who tags me occasionally. would have been his roommate if i got A*Star.

Bon voyage Dickson! Thanks for the solutions to Griffins! i believe it will be a great help for this sem.

Matric Fair 2007

At this very moment, i am in Matriculation Fair 2007. Liying is right beside me, struggling to find modules to take.

Edwin: Jiwei did u get all your modules?
JW: i only bid for core, of cos can get lah...if not heart attack leh
Edwin: haha, try telling tt to Liying...

Poor Liying...she failed to get 5 of her core modules. Hmm...

Picked up juggling in matric fair. Here are the balls...

Thanks to my telemarketing training, i was able to come up with a gd pitch.

Here's my pitch:
Hi, do you have any climbing experience?
If yes (5%)....
Ahhh...that's good, we are looking for experienced climbers to join the climbing team.
If no (95%)...
Oh, then i would recommend that you take up the Level one Climbing Course. It will be a full day course from 10am to 5pm and you will learn the basics to climbing.

At the same time, we are looking for committee members to help organize climbing competitions, events and overseas trips.
Close the sale with the following statement...
You can leave us yr email and contact number with us and we will update you regarding the courses and trials.
One pitfall in asking questions....
NEVER ask "Hi, are you interested in ........?"

It gives them an option to say no which puts an end to the conversation immediately.

Fishing !!!

Went fishing on Sunday.

8 of us went, and everyone caught fishes...but me

i caught a blue-spotted ray, and i received the following comments:

Dex (to ZhiHao who was seasick throughout the trip):
人家连stingray都钓到了, 你可不可以争气一点,不要再吐了。
While we were splitting the catch....
Dave: Dun worry no one will snatch the Stingray from you.
At the Ferry terminal passing through the X-ray machine,
Policeman: So who is the champion of the day?
Solomon: Oh the guy behind me, he caught a Stingray...
Policeman: WAH...can i see?

With the help of Google, i manage to identify the exact species.

http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/tlymma.htm

its quite disgusting to look at the stingray up close...so i shall not post a bigger pic of the stingray

Brought the stingray to a street hawker, got it cooked for $8 and shared with ppl in Xen.

The chef went: “我不知道这个 hank her* 可不可以吃,可是我可以帮你煮。如果有事, 不要来找我。”

But i was quite confident as my friend's father (ex-boatman-cum-fisherman) who was with us on the fishing trip told me that it is edible.

Well, its been 2 days and i am still fine. haha, no diarrhea, no fever, no flu, no cough...
